Representative of Ombudsman participated in international event

Head of a Unit of the Ombudsman Office, Turan Jahangirova took part in a meeting dedicated to the topic of “Protection of labour rights of citizens” held by the Coordination Council of Ombudsmen in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan.

The event was attended by ombudspersons of several states, including Russia and its federal subjects, their authorized representatives, members of government, representatives of international and national human rights organizations, also by scholars.

The representative of the Ombudsman noted that the welfare of population has improved, new workplaces have been opened as a result of the economic-social reforms in the country, the growth of oil and non-oil sector, also the small and medium-sized entrepreneurship, as well as the implementation of the State Program on Regional Development and the National Employment Strategy.

T. Jahangirova touched upon the Commissioner’s activity in the protection and promotion of labour rights of different categories of population. She stressed that this activity served to solve social problems of refugees, IDPs, migrants, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, to increase supportive measures for securing their interests and to foster partnership for this purpose.

The work, carried out with regard to temporary settlement, improvement of living conditions, provision of employment of more than one million refugees and IDPs in our country, was mentioned. In only 2018, 944 IDPs were provided with employment in 141 organizations by reason of job fairs.

T. Jahangirova also pointed out that the Commissioner put forward proposals and recommendations for effectively ensuring the labour rights of citizens, raised isuues before relevant state bodies. Solution of numerous problems was attained within the framework of the cooperation with foreign colleagues as well.

She also provided information about the Ombudsman’s best practices applied for the protection of human rights and freedoms.

The representative also attended a workshop organized by the Russian Ombudsman on improvement of the procedures for investigation of applications of foreigners and stateless persons.
