The next event of the project titled “Gender violence – tragedy of our society” was held at the initiative of Sabunchu District Executive Power at school No.187 in Mashtagha settlement.
Deputy Head of Sabunchu District Executive Power, chairman of the Monitoring Group on gender violence and violence against children, also the representatives of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Vafa Verdiyeva and Lamiya Zeynalova, as well as members of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, principals of the secondary schools, teachers, students and parents attended the event.
The event started with the video prepared by the students on the topic of gender-based violence. Then, students and teachers displayed short scenes and recited poems.
Chief advisor of the Ombudsman Office L. Zeynalova made a speech and emphasized, the issue of ensuring gender equality is paid special attention by the Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova. Along with the rights of other groups of population, continuous, comprehensive and systematic measures are being maintained for more reliable protection and promotion of the women’s rights, as well as supporting their participation in social-political life of the country and achieving equal opportunities between men and women. She also mentioned the comprehensive activity of the Ombudsman regarding awareness-raising on the reasons, types and ways of prevention of violence against children and women, its negative impact, as well as ensuring and protecting their rights, including elimination of domestic violence, cases of early marriage and evasion from education.
Within the framework of the event the Commissioner’s proposals in the field of effectively ensuring the rights of women and children were brought to attention. Such kind of proposals include establishing necessary conditions for upbringing of children in a healthy environment; implementing measures for preventing exposure of children to torture or manipulation in the conflict situations arising between parents; instilling moral values and a sense of patriotism in children and youth; raising actions and initiatives by children and women in regions; improvement of leadership skills, establishing networks expanding the circle of interests of children, strengthening legal awareness activity in the whole country, drafting publicity materials and other proposals.
At the end of the event schoolchildren actively participating in the project were rewarded with diplomas by Sabunchu District Youth and Sport Department.
