Event dedicated to migration issues was held in Leadership School

An event was organized at the initiative of the Public Council under the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Leadership School of Azerbaijan Child and Youth Peace Network (ACYPN), the resource center on child rights of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, Chief of the State Migration Service (SMS) Vusal Huseynov, Chairman of the above-mentioned Council Azer Allahveranov, as well as students of the Leadership School joining nearly 100 members, teachers and parents participated at this event.

Firstly, the Commissioner mentioned the legal reforms founded by the National leader Heydar Aliyev, whose 96th birthday is celebrated this year, and now developed by the President Ilham Aliyev aimed at improving social welfare, proper living standards of people, ensuring legal equality, as well as directed towards peace and sustainable development. She noted that the referendums held after the adoption of our Constitution on November 12, 1995, established a basis for widening and effectively ensuring the human rights, including the rights of the child, as a result of great and intense efforts by Heydar Aliyev.        

E. Suleymanova gave information on the history of establishment of the ACYPN and Leadership School, its efficient functioning, the activities implemented by the Ombudsman institution in the protection of the rights of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and migrants. The Commissioner noted that close cooperation is maintained with the State Migration Service, relevant UN bodies in this direction, and joint projects are implemented in borderline regions.

V. Huseynov informed the participants about the comprehensive activity on migration field implemented in our country; legal status of foreigners and stateless persons; extension of period on their temporary stay in the country territory; permissions for temporary or permanent living; obtaining individual permission for engaging in paid labour and extension of time periods; rule of registering them by the place of residence; responsibility for violating requirements of legislation on migration; awareness-raising events conducted in this sphere, as well as other related issues.

Moreover, he brought into attention the migration crisis existing in the world, integration of persons readmitted or received refugee status, their social protection, deportation of persons infringing rules, electronic services provided in the country on this direction, ASAN Visa system and information on other issues.

The Chief of the Service was given publications reflecting the activities of the ACYPN and handicrafts of the children. A short-film regarding the carried out work within the period of nearly 20 years of successful activity, along with the video-clips were displayed in the event. The guest also answered numerous questions of children at the end of the event.

The attendees thanked the Commissioner for arranging such kind of events.
