It is already the 10th year that Hierarchic Child Rights Education is implemented on a regular basis at the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova in collaboration with the Ministry of Education at the secondary schools.
The clause 4.4 in the National Program of Action to Raise Effectiveness of the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan, approved by the Order of the country President Ilham Aliyev dated December 27, 2011, implies enhancing of teaching of human rights at specialized vocational and higher education institutions and develop stage-by-stage teaching of the rights of the child in secondary schools.
During the academic year 2018-2019 this program is carried out at schools in Sabail, Garadagh, Sabunchu, Narimanov,Surakhani, Nizami, Yasamal, Binagadi, Nasimi, Khatai, Khazar, Pirallahi rayons of Baku city, as well as in the regions of our republic choosing one school from each, including Aghstafa, Gazakh, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Sheki, Gabala, Khizi and Siyazan , in total 20 schools.
It should be noted, the education program realized with participation of children as trainers and applied on the basis of different modules, not only contributes to learning of the children's rights, but also plays a necessary role in development of knowledge and speech skills of students, raising their social activity, instilling moral values, spirit of patriotism and healthy lifestyle, as well as in the specialization of the teachers of relevant subjects in the field of human rights. The focus of this interactively held peer-to-peer education project is directed towards the improvement of students’ knowledge on the rights of child.
The booklet with the text of “The Convention on the Rights of Child” drafted in Azerbaijani language and teaching manual titled “The selected topics regarding hierarchic education on child rights” prepared by the Ombudsman Institution in an understandable manner for children, as well as other legal publications and posters are used during the teaching process.
Generally, more than 170 schools from all the rayons of Baku, also 32 regions and cities of the country have been involved to the annual Hierarchic Child Rights Education program since the academic year 2009-2010. Over 10000 students that particularly differed in this process were awarded with certificates by the Ombudsman, more than 800 teachers and principals got letters of thanks.
