Official Visit of Ombudsman to Saratov, Russian Federation

Azerbaijani Ombudsman made official visit to Saratov Oblast of Russian Federation to participate in the international scientific conference titled “Human Rights are indicator of modern development of a State” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Saratov National Human Rights Institution. Ombudsman accompanied by Turan Jahangirova, the staff member of the Office.

The international event brought together over 200 people, including UN OHCHR, CoE and other international organizations’ representatives, media outlets and civil society.

The participants discussed issues of strategic aspects of modern development and ensuring human rights, drafting recommendations on enhancing legislation through complex analysis and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan delivered a speech on “Equality and Active participation in decision making are main elements of legal state” highlighting the importance of bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan in many fields, Russia’s support in peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict, legal status of the Caspian Sea, human rights reforms in the country, which pave the way to reducing poverty, developing social protection, developing comprehensive migration legislation framework; moreover she spoke about human rights programs implemented in the country, ombudsman's activity in the field of human rights protection and promotion, grave atrocities of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The conference was continued with other presentations and final declaration was adopted. 

In the course of the visit, Ombudsman met with the Azerbaijani Diaspora in the city and visited some historical places.

At the end of the visit, Saratov and Azerbaijani national human rights institutions signed bilateral agreement on further cooperation.
