The World Health Organization and the International Federation of Diabetes celebrated November 14 - the World Diabetes Day about which, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on diabetes to inform the public about the causes, symptoms, complications, treatment and prevention of the disease, and to explore ways to prevent its development.
The event was organized jointly by Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Novo Nordisk Company of Denmark to raise public awareness on the fight against diabetes and to promote healthy lifestyles by educating the public. Representatives of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Parliamentarians, Ministry of Health, Ombudsman Office, Azerbaijan Diabetes League, other relevant government and non-governmental organizations, as well as guests from Italy, Denmark, Iran and other countries took part in this event.
Another event dedicated to the World Diabetes Day was held under the motto "Let's win diabetes!" and "Diabetes and Family" jointly with the Ministry of Health's Public Health and Reform Center, the Republican Endocrinology Center and the Azerbaijan Diabetes League.
At the latter event, the Ombudsman’s staff members, Mughalib Mahmudov spoke about state actions taken for social and legal protection of people with diabetes, including adoption of a special law "On State Care for Persons with Diabetes", State Programs on Diabetes for 2006-2010 and 2011-2015 and for 2016-2020, which have been successfully implemented and that contributed to prevention of diabetes, improvement of medical care for patients suffering from diabetes and to prevention of complications caused by this disease.
While talking on the relevant activity of the Ombudsman, Mahmudov underlined the Commissioner's recommendations regarding considering time spent by doctors to applicants, suffering from diabetes during admission exams; provision of such applications to the university with necessary medical facilities, if they present supporting medical documents; provision of diabetes with medication -Insulin Glargine/ Lantus and other medications for diabetes sugars was positively solved, he said. According to the Commissioner's suggestions, the budget funds allocated for prevention and treatment of diabetes have significantly increased in recent years.
