The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, participated in the Sixth Congress of Azerbaijani Women dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
During her speech at the event, where state officials and representatives of international organizations in our country took part, the Ombudsman pointed out that special attention is paid to the issues of ensuring the rights and freedoms of women and ensuring gender equality, and considering the protection of women's rights, a number of important international treaties have been ratified by our state.
S. Aliyeva emphasized that as a result of the comprehensive reforms carried out by the Great Leader, Heydar Aliyev, whose 100th anniversary is celebrated this year with great respect, for the women in Azerbaijan, greater opportunities have been created for increasing their role in society and active participation in the country's socio-political, socio-economic, and cultural life. The Ombudsman also noted that the political direction set by the National Leader is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.
The Ombudsman gave detailed information about her activities in protecting women's rights and ensuring gender equality. Outlining the national reforms carried out for effective protection of human rights and freedoms and the amendments made to the Constitutional Law on the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, S. Aliyeva said that the Ombudsman implements the functions of the independent monitoring mechanism to monitor and promote the ensuring of the right to equality and the prevention of discrimination.
S. Aliyeva brought to the attention of the conference participants that the Ombudsman Institution has been actively involved in the legislative improvement process in the field of women's rights and gender equality.
It was pointed out that the Ombudsman Institution carried out a range of awareness-raising activities on women's rights across the country.
