Children's Rights Month-long campaign focused on refugee children

Within the child rights month-long campaign, a series of children's rights events are held in the capital and regions annually in the country on October 20 - November 20, 2019.

The Ombudsman's Office and State Migration Service organized joint awareness event for refugee children and their parents. The seminar was delivered by Turan Jahangirova, head of the Unit on Protection of Rights of Refugees, IPDs and Migrants at the Ombudsman Office and she spoke about domestic and international documents related to refugee and migrants’ law and reforms in the concerned field.

Ombudsman's actions related to constitutional law for ??promotion, protection of children's rights, recommendations for advancing legislation, 916 hotline services for children, the protection of the “refugee” child or of the child who is permanently or temporarily deprived of his or her family for any reason and related provisions of the applicable international law, in line with the Article 22 of the CRC were the topic of this seminar.  Expansion of cooperation with international organizations to provide support, including search of parents or other family members of the refugee children, to obtain the necessary information for family reunification and to strengthen coordination in this area are stressed as issues of importance.

The Ombudsman representative informed the participants that "Child Strategy" and the "Child Code" are being developed in the framework of "Azerbaijan 2020: the Concept of the Future Development" and the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2016-2030, which will constitute provisions related to migrants and refugee children.

At the end of the event, the participants have been disseminated educational publications prepared by the Ombudsman Office.

The participants thanked to Ombudsman and the State Migration Service for such initiative and awareness campaigns.
