Children's rights month-long campaign is continued

Set of awareness events on child rights are being held in the capital and regions throughout the child rights month-long campaign initiative of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman between October 20 - November 20, 2019.  

Recently, the Ombudsman organized an educational event on the CRC at the Ilyas Efendiyev Gymnasium of the Ministry of Education for teachers and students. Representatives of the Ombudsman's Office Ilaha Afganli and Dilshad Ismayilova gave detailed information on the history of child rights, state measures taken for protection of children's rights, 7/24 operating 916 helpline to identify and investigate cases of child abuse and other violations.

It was noted that Ombudsman's relevant initiative on children's rights jointly with the Ministry of Education in secondary schools in Baku and regions has been successfully implementing since 2009. The Project involves children not only to contribute to their study of children's rights, but also to develop their knowledge and speaking skills before the public and to learn how to teach relevant human rights topics. Up to date more than 170 schools have been involved in this project.  Publications prepared by the Ombudsman Office gave been disseminated.

Similar awareness event has been organized in the correctional center for juveniles under the Ministry of Penitentiary for juveniles and facility staff by the Ombudsman Office, including speakers NPM Group leader Rashid Rumzada and Senior Human Rights Officer Lala Azimova of the Ombudsman Office. The juveniles were informed about their rights and duties, CRC, Beijing Declaration and Riyadh Guidelines, preventive mechanisms and related measures by NPM and informed about measures undertaken for ensuring the relevant rights and Ombudsman’s proposals.
