Statement of the Ombudsman regarding the meeting in Yevlakh with the point person for contacts with the residents of Armenian-origin living in Karabakh

We welcome the meeting held in the city of Yevlakh between the representatives of Armenian-origin residents living in the economic zone of the Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the point person for contacts.

Azerbaijan, being a multicultural and tolerant state, pays special attention to ensuring the protection of rights and freedoms of every citizen regardless of their nationality, religion, language, ethnicity, and other affiliations, including Armenian-origin citizens living in Karabakh, which are established in international documents and national legislation, along with the development of those rights and freedoms.

As the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I believe that such contacts will eventually contribute to peace and development in our region, as well as to the more effective protection of the rights and freedoms of our citizens of Armenian-origin living in the Karabakh economic zone, and I highly appreciate that favorable conditions have been created for coexistence in the future.
