The Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan received the head of the mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Serhan Aktoprak, at his request. During the meeting, the parties discussed the activities carried out by the Ombudsman institution in the field of migrants' rights and exchanged views on new priorities.
Speaking about the importance of adopting both the legislation and the new international norms aimed at protecting their rights due to the sharp increase in the number of migrants in recent years, the Commissioner said that the adoption of the Global Compact on safe, regular and regulated migration not only at national and regional levels, but also to contribute to the development of the global scale and the need to continue joint activities in this regard.
The meeting also identified trends on awareness of this population group, creation of necessary conditions for timely and comprehensive legal aid and a number of other issues.
S. Aktoprak expressed gratitude to the Ombudsman for the sincere reception, useful suggestions, ideas and information exchange.
