Bilgah senior house subordinated to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population launched event dedicated to International Day of Older Persons. Representative of the competent Ministry, other public stakeholders, representatives of other government agencies and mass media Representatives of the World Bank. Ombudsman’s representatives Vafa Verdiyeva, Gulnar Rahimova and Mugalib Mahmudov took part in this event.
It was noted in the speeches that according to the resolution of 14 December 1990, adopted by the UN General Assembly, October 1 is celebrated as International Day of Older Persons. The main purpose of establishing that day is to intensify the involvement of the elderly and older persons in the lives of families and communities, as well as their rights and needs.
It was also spoken about social policy and reforms for improving the well-being of the different groups of population, socially disadvantaged group of population at the country level.
Ombudsman’s staff member, Mugalib Mahmudov gave broad information about the history of the International Day of Older Persons, the work carried out in the field of social and legal protection of the citizens in the country, and the large-scale activity of E. Suleymanova in this field.
“The existing problems in the concerned field was submitted to the attention of the competent state bodies. Ombudsman always underlines the importance of relationship between inter-generations, and of learning skills and experience of seniors by the young people, the draft state program on strengthening the social protection of senior citizens has been submitted to the competent Ministry, which was prepared on the basis of UN Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and Office prepared an education tool “Toward Good Ageing”.
