Leadership School hosts awareness on environmental rights

Recently, at the initiative of the Commissioner, the Leadership School, under the Azerbaijan Child and Youth Peace Network Ombudsman's Resource Center for Child Rights, which unites about 100 students from different schools in Baku has launched an interactive awareness on environmental rights.

Faig Agayev and Gulnar Rahimova, members of the Leadership School and their parents attended the next environmental event focusing on educating the children in the spirit of environmental protection, the love of the country, the rational use of our rich natural resources and the formation of their environmental awareness.

Opening the event Faig Aghayev informed children about the purpose of the event as well as on important dates of May – such as May 8, the day of occupation of Shusha, the 95th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Gulnar Rahimova, the Ombudsman's Specialized Adviser on Environmental Rights, addressed important issues in the field of environmental management, as well as measures were taken to keep the ecological balance, the implementation of environmental rights and duties of the population and the awareness work in the concerned field.

She also made presentations about the work carried out by the IDEA youth organization in the field of environmental protection, as well as presentations on ecological terrorism carried out in Azerbaijan as a result of Armenia's aggressive policy.

G.Rahimova spoke in detail about the activities of the Ombudsman in the field of human rights, including protection and promotion of environmental rights, ecological culture, as well as events  jointly organized with the Ecology Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources .

A number of important international environmental days, including the Earth Day, World Environment Day and International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone have been highlighted. Then a lot of questions of the participants were answered.
