On the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova, the awareness raising campaign was held for children of the 4th grade students of the European Azerbaijan School in Yasamal, Baku.
Representatives of the Ombudsman Office Lamiya Zeynalova, Dilshad Ismayilova and Murad Babayev, as well as the teaching staff of the school attended the event.
The students were presented an interesting presentation about children's rights.
Representatives of the Commissioner gave detailed information on the essence of child rights, international and national legislative acts in this area as human rights and its components. They exchanged ideas on the basis of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
It was given information regarding the multifaceted activity in the field of ensuring and protecting the rights of refugees and IDPs, children with disability and orphanschildren, along with other rights, proposals and recommendations on improving the legislation in this field, as well as works done in the field of violence against children in the institution and about 24-hour hotline service 916 on child rights operating within the organization. At the same time, the participants were informed about the Leadership School under the Commission for Child Rights and the Peace Network of the Commissioner on Child Rights.
Moreover, pupils and teachers provided detailed information to on the child rights education program successfully implemented in secondary schools in Baku and regions since 2009-2010 academic year, at the Ombudsman's initiative and within the frame of the cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
The event was continued in the form of an interesting and interactive discussion, and numerous questions of pupils were answered in detail.
At the event it was used the educational publications prepared by the Ombudsman Office and those books, including the book "Convention on the Rights of the Child" was presented to the school administration.
