Ombudsman Office organized the event on the occasion of the 95 Anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and Zarifa Aliyeva. The staff members of the regional centers have also attended the meeting.
“Rich life experience and activities have served for the sustainable development of the country, rule of law was ensured, actual measures were taken in the field of human rights and freedoms” said the Commissioner at the meeting.
“The Constitution of 1995 in which the whole III Chapter is devoted to human rights and main freedoms was prepared and considered as a highest value. Since 1993 capital punishment has been vetoed in Azerbaijan and later since 1998 it was abolished and instituted to life imprisonment” she added.
“1998 Presidential Decree on the “Measures regarding maintenance of human rights” as well as Presidential order dated to June18, 1998 the State Program on Approval of the State Program on protection of human rights became the basis of significant strategic documents. Establishment of the Commissioner’s Office in Azerbaijan was firstly constituted in that State Program on human rights. Adopting of the Constitutional Law on Ombudsman of Azerbaijan in 2001 became a significant turnover in the field of human rights in the country” stated the Commissioner.
Later at the meeting there was told about life story, activities, scientific studies and charity works of the well-known doctor and wife of Heydar Aliyev, Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva.
