A meeting was held with Lejla Dervisagic at the Ombudsman Office

Head of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Office received Lejla Dervisagic Head of Cooperation Unit of Media and Internet Division of the Council of Europe (CoE).  Zoltan Hernyes, Head of the CoE Office in Baku Office also participated in the meeting.

A.Safikhanli informed the guest about the activity directions of the Ombudsman Office, the work carried out for raising the awareness of population. He said that during her term in Office, the Ombudsman established mutual cooperation with international organizations, including CoE in the field of human rights; seminars and trainings were co-organized with this organization.

In the course of the meeting, it was noted that the Commissoner’s activity covers the gender problems and legal education, including development of state programs to achieve equal opportunities for women, men and different gorups of population.  

Lejla Dervisagic gave information about the project on gender equality and media freedom in Azerbaijan, mentioning that the project aims at promoting gender equality through the media, reviewing and updating journalists' professional conduct rules from the perspective of gender equality, promotion of the Council of Europe standards for gender equality and media freedom, as well as updated Journalists' Professional Ethics Rules, the development of a new curriculum on gender equality and media freedom.

The future perspectives of cooperation between the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Institute and COE were widely discussed at the meeting.
