Ombudsman received second secretary of Canadian Embassy

Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova received Antonia Wynne-Hughes, the second secretary of the Embassy of Canada residing in Ankara and accredited in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Commissioner gave comprehensive information about the main activity direction of the Ombudsman Office-improvement of the legislation and ensuring their conformity with international documents, protection of the rights of different groups of population, improvement of the work of the governmental bodies, conduction of legal awareness work, cooperation with international organizations.

Touching upon the activity as NPM, the Commissioner said ad-hoc and planned monitoring is conducted in more than 240 places which persons can not leave at their own will, press releases on each visit are sent and respective bodies are urged in this regard.

It was noted during her term in Office the Commissioner sent about 600 proposals to relevant state bodies, 200 of which were about the activity as NPM and 60% of them were taken into consideration.

E. Suleymanova added that she pays close attention to protection of woman rights, ensuring gender equality, restoration of violated rights of women, and cooperates with international and regional organizations in this regard.
