General Assembly of European Network of National human rights institutions was held in Brussels, Belgium. Zaur Valimammadli, Head of International Relations Unit of the Ombudsman Office participated there. Issues like strengthening cooperation of National human rights institutions with international organizations, increasing their role in implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals and effective protection of human rights were discussed during the meeting.
In his speech Z. Valimammadli informed participants about the cooperation of Azerbaijani Ombudsman Office within the framework of EU funded Twinning and Eastern Partnership Project, CoE funded Peer to Peer Project and highlighted positive impact of the experience gained within the framework of the cooperation on the activity of the Ombudsman Office.
In the session on Sustainable Development Goals, he spoke about the activity of the Azerbaijani Commissioner in implementation of these goals, and stressed the importance of the role of National human rights institutions in this regard.
Touching upon the activity of Azerbaijani Ombudsman with regard to legal awareness of children and youth, Z. Valimammadli made proposal on giving priority to projects and programs which ensure child and youth participation and consideration of national institutions as the main stakeholders in this regard. The proposal was welcomed by event participants.
