Sabina Aliyeva participated in the next meeting of the Association of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions of Turkic States held in Istanbul

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, participated in the next meeting of the Association of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions of Turkic States (TURKOMB) held in Istanbul.

During her speech at this international event, which has brought together the ombudspersons as well as the heads and representatives of national human rights institutions of Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Northern Cyprus, the Ombudsman emphasized the importance for TURKOMB Member States to strengthen cooperation in the protection of human rights.

The Ombudsman provided information about the environmental risks and the violation of the rights of individuals to live in a healthy environment resulting from the operation of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia. She also drew attention to the potential future dangers if the NPP activities continue. S. Aliyeva called for international cooperation in taking urgent measures to prevent potential future hazards.

During the meeting, Ombudspersons gave information about their activities and engaged in discussions regarding future cooperation.
