Elmira Suleymanova, the Commissioner for Human Rights received Christine Muttonen elected OSCE PA President.
The Commissioner informed the guest about the history, mandate, the activity of Ombudsman Institution functioning already more than 15 years.
E. Suleymanova added close mutual cooperation was built with the OSCE during her term in Office, joint seminars and trainings were organized, a number of well-known experts joined these events, experiences were shared.
It was noted during her term in Office the Commissioner sent about 600 proposals to relevant state bodies, 60% of which were taken into consideration.
Touching upon long lasting Armenian-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, situation of more than one million Azerbaijanis who became refugees and IPDs, the Commissioner suggested to work our new tools and mechanisms for the resolution of the conflict considering the fact that the activity and each recommendation of OSCE Minsk Group which has been functioning for 25 years is ineffective in this regard.
Christine Muttonen thanked the Commissioner for such detailed information. Regarding the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, she said that People to People dialogue format would be very efficient in this regard, thus creating dialogue environment between the citizens of both countries is very important. She added that as OSCE PA, they are ready to provide any support.
C. Muttonen appreciated the work carried out by the Commissioner for protection of human rights, legal publications prepared by the Ombudsman Office, public awareness events held, particularly hierarchic education of child rights at secondary schools of Azerbaijan. She added cooperation and exchange of experience with OSCE Copenhagen Office would be very fruitful in this regard.
