Monitorings are continued by National Preventive Group

Upon the instruction of the Commissioner, National Preventive Group (NPG) conducted monitoring in Jail No.2 of the Penitentiary Service under the Ministry of Justice without prior notice.

The aim of this visit was to investigate applications received by the Commissioner and provision of the rights of convicts.

For investigating applications and treatment issues, NPG members met with convicts including Giyas ibrahimov and Ilgar Mammadov in private, the state of ensuring their rights, issues raised by them, as well as documentation were inspected on spot.

Giyas Ibrahimov noted he had been subjected to rude treatment he was brought to the facility, the issues he raised and the documentation in this regard was inspected.

It should be noted Giyas Ibrahimov had been received by NPG several times even while being in investigation isolator, Ministry of Justice and Prosecutor General’s Office had been addressed regarding his applications, had been reacted, necessary actions had been taken regarding his health and he was informed about it.

During the meeting convicts were legally educated about their own rights, requirements of the relevant legislation; legal consultation was given on the issues raised by them.

Relevant bodies will be addresses regarding the outcome of the monitoring.
