Ombudsman attended an International Forum

Elmira Suleymanova, the Commissioner for Human Rights and Turan Jahangirova, head of the Unit for Protection of the Rights of Refugees, IDPs and Migrants attended the 28th session of Crans Montana Forum held in Barcelona. The event was dedicated to stability strategies in world governance and perspectives of cooperation in this regard.

The Commissioner made a presentation in plenary session dedicated to migration issues. She talked about the 15-year successful activity of Ombudsman Office, different actions taken for protection of the rights and freedoms of different groups of people, including refugees, IDPs and migrants.

The Commissioner added that on July 4, 2017, Armenian armed forces targeted and deliberately attacked the civilians and civilian entities in Alkhanli village of Fizuli rayon of Azerbaijan with 82 and 120 mm mortars and heavy grenade launchers, as a result, the aged Allahverdiyeva Sahiba born in 1967 and her 2 years old granddaughter Guliyeva Zahra died, another woman civilian Guliyeva Salminaz born in 1965 was heavily injured and civilian entities were destroyed.

She called the Forum participants  to support actions aimed at giving international legal assessment to these crimes, ending the long–lasting Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, liberation the occupied territories of the country in compliance with the universal, international norms, withdrawal of the occupant armed forces from these territories, restoration of the recognized by UN borders and territorial integrity of the Azerbaijani state, returning of hundred thousand internally displaced persons to their lands and homes with fully enjoying all their human rights.

In her speech during the session dedicated to women rights and gender equality, the Commissioner shared the best practice of the country in this regard, adoption of national strategies and state programs, improvement of legislation, conduction of monitoring in the capital and regions and awareness raising events held all over the country, etc.

During the Forum meetings were held with the Presidents, officials of several countries, as well as with journalists and other participants. Discussions were held on future cooperation perspectives.
