The next group of students started their internship with the Ombudsman Office. This time students are of the Faculty of Regional Studies and International Relations of the Azerbaijan University of Languages.
The first lecture to students was delivered by the Head of the Ombudsman Office, Mr. Aydin Safikhanli. He briefed the four-year students about legal and human rights reforms taken at the national level, national and international legal documents, international human rights treaties that Azerbaijan is a party to, historical background of the Ombudsman Office in the country, Ombudsman’s mandate, competences and activity for human rights protection and promotion, and the State measures for ensuring human and citizens’ rights under the State plans, programs, national strategies.
In the course of the internship, the students will get familiarized with the daily work of all divisions and departments at the Ombudsman Office as well as have theoretical and practical lessons by the Ombudsman Office staff, including main human rights principles, international and national protection mechanisms, the Commissioner’s activity in legal advocacy, scientific-analytical work, public affairs, international cooperation, protection of rights of migrants, refugees and IDPs, children, women, elderly, persons with disabilities, military servants, prisoners, protection of civil, political, economic, cultural rights, national preventive mechanism, and so on.
By the way, right now other second year master students of the State Academy of Public Administration under the President of Azerbaijan continue their internship at the Office. All students will benefit from human rights library of the Office.
