Within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanism activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, the members of the National Preventive Group (NPG) conducted a visit to the Social Service Facility No.2 for persons with disabilities under the age of 18.
The purpose of the visit was to monitor the conditions of children living in the facility and involved in habilitation and rehabilitation processes, as well as to investigate the treatment of children by the staff and the status of ensuring their rights.
During the visit, the NPG, with the participation of a physician and an expert in social work, monitored all objects of the social-care facility, including bedrooms, rehabilitation rooms, canteen and kitchen, leisure facilities, and the common area. At the same time, the NPG investigated the behavior toward children living in the facility and studied the current situation during private interviews and legal awareness talks with the administration, employees, and medical staff of the facility.
At the end of the visit, the members of the NPG held legal awareness talks with the administration and employees of the social service facility based on the relevant national legislation and international standards, including the UNCRC, as well as gave recommendations on increasing attention to the implementation and provision of children's rights and improving the activities in this regard.
