Awareness-raising events are continued within the framework of the 2024 Action Plan to Increase the Effectiveness of Protection and Promotion of Human Rights and Freedoms, approved by Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan.
The next training session on "Promotion of the Implementation and Independent Monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD): New Mandate Granted to the Ombudsman" was organized in the Ombudsman Office for the employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Education, the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance, the Public Legal Entity "Management Union of Medical Territorial Units" (TABIB), the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, and the Baku City Executive Authority. The representatives of the North, South, West, and Northwest Regional Centers of the Ombudsman, as well as representatives of the Office of the Commissioner (Ombudsman) for Human Rights of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, joined the event online.
During the training, the staff members of the Department of Cooperation with International and Civil Society Organizations of the Ombudsman Office made PPT presentations about the topic.
During the presentations, detailed information was provided about the obligations under the CRPD, recommendations made by the relevant Committee, and the new mandate granted to the Ombudsman for promoting and independently monitoring the implementation of the Convention, including the undertaken activities in this regard and the upcoming tasks ahead. The content of applications received by the Ombudsman regarding the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs), problems identified during the monitoring visits, and the Ombudsman's relevant proposals were brought to attention in the course of the training. Furthermore, the importance of measures taken to promote the rights of PWDs, including health, education, and the right to work, ensure equality and combat disability-based discrimination, ensure accessibility, build an inclusive society, and protect the rights of persons identified as disabled due to war and those affected by mine terror, was emphasized.
In addition, during the training, information was also provided about 2 April - World Autism Awareness Day, and discussions were held regarding the rights of persons suffering from autism spectrum disorders and the protection of their rights.
In conclusion, a discussion on the topic was held, and the participants’ questions were answered.
