The Ombudsman had a meeting with Acting UNDP Resident Representative in Azerbaijan

The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, had a meeting  with Alessandra Roccasalvo, acting UNDP Resident Representative in our country.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman gave comprehensive information to the guest about her activities in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, outlining close cooperation with international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as ombudspersons and national human rights institutions of other countries.

Speaking about activities in the field of business and human rights, the Ombudsman pointed out the collaboration with state institutions, civil society organizations, and international organizations, emphasizing the measures taken to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in our national legislation and prepare a national action plan. In addition, the Ombudsman Office has prepared a publication  titled "An Overview of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights."

Briefing about fact-finding missions carried out in our liberated territories, the Ombudsman stated that, as a result of Armenia's occupation policy, the norms of  international law and international humanitarian law were violated. She also highlighted the importance of the close participation of international organizations in the resolution of the landmine problem caused as a result of the occupation. S. Aliyeva also said that specific ad hoc reports were prepared and sent to relevant international organizations, the ombudsmen and foreign NHRIs. 

At the meeting, the parties discussed the potential perspectives of cooperation within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which our country will host this year. The importance of the active participation of NHRIs during COP29 was also emphasized.

In her turn, A.Roccasalvo, the acting resident representative of the UNDP in Azerbaijan, thanked the Ombudsman for the warm reception.

In conclusion, several other mutually interesting issues were also discussed in the course of the meeting.
