Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, gathered with Vitalie Jacot, Chairman of the Moldova-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
During the meeting, Ombudsman informed the Moldovan MP about the activities to protect human rights and freedoms.
Ombudsman pointed out the importance of international cooperation for the ombuds institution of Azerbaijan, outlining its strong collaboration with ombudspersons and NHRIs of other countries, including Moldova, adding that bilateral cooperation for effective protection of the human rights of its citizens between the two states is continuing.
Three-decade occupation by Armenia was ended as a result of the Second Karabakh War, re-building and construction works have been carried out in the liberated territories and the return process of former IDPs to their native areas has been implemented, Ombudsman said. However, the landmines, planted in those areas during the occupation period create obstacles to the works implemented there and the civilians’ lives and health have been threatened.
Sabina Aliyeva added that this year, Azerbaijan will host the 29th Session of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Participants of the UNFCCC. The sides discussed the possible prospects of cooperation.

At the meeting, the sides also discussed several issues of mutual interest, including study visits of staff members between the ombuds institutions of both countries.
