The members of the Ombudsman’s National Preventive Group conducted monitoring visit to the Correctional Facility of the Penitentiary Service

The members of the Ombudsman’s National Preventive Mechanism (NPM), Sabina Aliyeva, carried out a thematic visit to the Correctional Facility of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanism activities.

The purpose of the visit organized in line with the OPCAT and the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman was to assess the social needs of children, ensure their rights, examine living conditions and treatment issues, organize medical assistance and psychological support, investigate the level of nutrition, and also familiarize children with the law on the "Social Adaptation of Persons Released from Penitentiary Institutions."

İn the course of the visit, during lunch time, NPG members monitored the cafeteria in presence of the institution's management and assessed the quality of meals and their compatibility with the menu. 

Later, during the presentation took place in the activity hall of the institution, the staff of the Ombudsman Office informed the juveniles about the measures envisaged for the successful adaptation of children released from detention to society, and at the end of the presentation, they answered all the children's questions.

At the end of the visit, individual interviews were conducted with the children, during which their requests were listened to. During these private conversations, some children requested assistance in providing a laundry machine. The issue was discussed with the institution's management, and the issue was addressed.
