The Ombudsman Office and the ICRC organized a seminar in Masalli

The Ombudsman Office and the Country Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organized a seminar on “Practical Aspects of Protecting the Rights of Special Categories of Persons within the Framework of International Humanitarian Law” (IHL) at the Ombudsman’s South Regional Center in Masalli city. 

This event, held during the Human Rights Month-Long Campaign, and aimed at professional development in the field of human rights, was attended by law enforcement agencies and relevant state institutions, including representatives from their structural divisions.

At the event, the head of the Ombudsman Office, Aydın Safikhanli, and the head of the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan, Dragana Kojic, made opening remarks. They emphasized the specific features of protecting the rights of various population groups under IHL.

Later, local and international trainers delivered presentations on various current topics and engaged in discussions about the institutionalization of IHL and the role of national institutions.

At the seminar, along with ICRC experts, Rashid Rumzada, Deputy Head of the Office of the Ombudsman, Mugalib Mahmudov, Head of the Legal Education Unit, and Aydan Talibova, Chief Advisor of the same unit, made PPT presentations on “The mandate and activities of the Ombudsman Office in the context of IHL and national legislation,” “The activities of the Ombudsman Office in support programs for families of missing persons,” and “The CRPD and the support activities of the Ombudsman Office for mine victims.”

The questions of the participants were answered in the sessions, and certificates were presented to them at the end.
