Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, held a semi-annual meeting in 2024 at the Ombudsman Office where heads and staff of the Office's structural divisions gathered.
At the meeting, discussions were held, and reports were heard on the activities in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms, complaints and appeals addressed to the Ombudsman, the protection of the rights of various population groups, and the national preventive mechanism (NPM) of the Ombudsman’s activities to prevent torture and ill-treatment carried out in the first half of 2024.
Discussions were held on further strengthening the implementation of the new functions of the Ombudsman based on the amendments made to the relevant Constitutional Law, along with other relevant issues.
Furthermore, discussions were held about the ongoing activities and future endeavors related to the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29).
During the semi-annual meeting, the upcoming tasks were also discussed, and relevant instructions were given to the different structural units.
In conclusion, the Ombudsman provided recommendations for more effective protection of human rights, the enhancement of activities as an NPM, and the further development and improvement of other priority areas.
