The next round table on "Ensuring citizens' right to vote" was organized in Ganja

Public awareness raising events about the right to vote of citizens, held jointly with the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan in relation to early elections to the Parliament, is continued. The next similar discussion was arranged in Ganja.

Mr. Aydın Safikhanli, Head of Staff at the Ombudsman, said in his opening speech, that by the Presidential Decree dated June 28, 2024, early parliamentary elections are set for September 1 of this year, and complex measures were implemented to ensure more effective active and passive rights of vote by citizens. The Head of the Office spoke about the importance of the observation institute, and the Ombudsman’s role in this process, too. 

He added that these joint public awareness events are organized at the initiative of Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva and the support of CEC, the first of which was launched in Baku and today in Ganja.

Additionally, A. Safikhanli brought to light that a some staff members of the Ombudsman Institution will be participating as independent observers in the parliamentary elections.

Subsequently, Ilham Mammadov and Almas Kahramanli, the members of the noted Commission, briefed the Commission’s works in relation to the parliamentary elections, also adding that outreach efforts are still ongoing.

In the end, questions from the attendees were answered, and views on the subject were shared.

It should be noted that the first rlevant kick-off discussion was organized in Baku, with the participation of CEC Chairman Mazahir Panakhov, Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, and the representatives of the district election commissions.
