A round table on the topic of 'Ensuring the electoral rights of citizens' related to the early parliamentary elections was organized in Sheki by the joint efforts of the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan and the Central Election Commission (CEC).
CEC member Shaitdin Aliyev, in his opening speech, highlighted that awareness-raising activities in the run-up to the early parliamentary elections are given special attention. He noted that these joint events are significant for building awareness among the public and all voters.
Shaitdin Aliyev also provided detailed information about the work carried out by the CEC, as well as the planned events, emphasizing ongoing relevant awareness-raising.
In his speech, the head of the Ombudsman Office, Aydın Safikhanlı, discussed the awareness-raising campaigns that were carried out before the elections. He mentioned that joint awareness-raising events are being held in Baku and the regions at the initiative of Ombudsman Sabina Əliyeva and with the support of the CEC. It was added that the present event is being held in Sheki, while others have taken place place in Baku and Ganja.
Speaking about comprehensive measures taken to more effectively ensure citizens' active and passive electoral rights, the head of the Office underlined the importance of the observation institutions and the role of the Ombudsman and the Institution in this process.
Following that, Samir Taghiyev, Chief Adviser of the Legal Department of the Secretariat in the Commission, gave a talk on the ongoing steps being taken to guarantee high-quality elections in the country and the opportunities provided for voters to freely exercise their constitutional rights.
During the discussions, an exchange of views on the topic took place, and participants’ questions were answered.
It should be noted that the first similar joint awareness-raising event was held in Baku with the participation of Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov, and representatives of district election commissions.
