The next round table related to the electoral rights was hosted in Nakhchivan

A round table pertinent to the electoral rights of citizens' in early parliamentary elections was organized at this time in Nakhchivan jointly by the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan and the Central Election Commission (CEC).

During her opening speech, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, gave information about the awareness-raising events being done for the elections to the Parliament to be held on September 1, 2024, adding that these events were organized jointly by the CEC and the Ombudsman Office.

The Ombudsman, outlined the requirements set forth in paragraph 3.10 of the "National Action Program in the field of increasing the efficiency of the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan," approved by the Presidential Decree dated December 27, 2011. She spoke about measures that were implemented to ensure more effective active and passive rights to vote by citizens, and the importance of the observation institute, too. 

S. Aliyeva noted that dated back to their previous extensive experiences, the Ombudsman and the staff would, on their own initiative, observe the parliamentary elections.

Nizami Nadirkhanli, a member of the Commission, emphasized the importance of the awareness-raising events conducted in the run-up to the snap elections to the Parliament, spoke about the importance of the events organized jointly by the CEC and the Ombudsman Office, and also gave extensive information about the planned events.

Gunay Rzayeva, the Ombudsman of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said that the Ombudsman institution of the Autonomous Republic has summarized the general situation related to the protection and ensuring citizens' voting rights in the autonomous republic and that joint awareness-raising events were organized with relevant state institutions in this regard.

At the event, presentations were made and the conditions created for voters to freely exercise their constitutional rights were discussed.

In the end, it was held an exchange of views on the topic, and participants’ questions were answered.

It should be noted that the first relevant kick-off discussion was organized in Baku, with the participation of CEC Chairman Mazahir Panakhov, Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, and the representatives of the district election commissions, later, such events were continued jointly in the regions.
