The Human Rights Commissioner, Sabina Aliyeva, received the Extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Federative Republic of Germany in Azerbaijan, Ralf Horlemann.
At the meeting, the Ombudsman extensively informed the guest about her activities in the field of protecting and promoting human rights and freedoms.
Underscoring the importance of learning from good experiences in the field of human rights, the Ombudsman spoke about the effective international cooperation built with NHRIs and ombuds institutions, regional and international associations in the field of human rights. It was said that in the light of modern challenges, enhancing collaboration among institutions protecting human rights leads to the development of legal culture and building global peace.
Moreover, the diplomat was informed about the last changes made to the Constitutional Law on Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, which expanded the Ombudsman’s mandate in the fields of protection of the rights of children, persons with disabilities, non-discrimination, and ensuring equality.
The Ambassador was provided with the information about the national preventive mechanism of the Ombudsman, including monitoring visits to places where individuals cannot leave at their own will, the application procedures, as well as the motions by the Ombudsman to the country President given based on the appeals of the prisoners in person and their families for pardoning.
S. Aliyeva also said that our country will host the 29th session of the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference (COP29), and the preparations are underway to organize this international event at the high level.
During the meeting, the sides have discussed the issues of mutual interest.
