Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held a meeting with a delegation headed by Liu Xuexin, the Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China and the Deputy Chairman of the National Commission of Supervision.
At the meeting, the Ombudsman highlighted that the relations between Azerbaijan and China have reached an advanced stage across multiple sectors, and several significant joint projects are currently underway between the two countries.
The Ombudsman gave extensive information to the delegation about her mandate, activities to protect human rights and freedoms, as well as good practices. Emphasizing that international cooperation plays an important role in the further improvement of the activities, the Ombudsman said that there is effective cooperation with various international institutions, as well as members of the Asian Ombudsman Association, of which she is the vice president.
The Ombudsman also pointed out that MoUs have been signed with the ombuds institutions and NHRIs of a number of countries and that a number of important projects have been implemented. She also added that she is interested in expanding relations with the CCDI of the Communist Party of China.
The Ombudsman noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in the forthcoming days and noted that the organization of panel discussions by the Ombudsman Institution is scheduled during this period.
Liu Xuexin, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. He recalled with pleasure that the meeting of the heads of state of the two countries was held this year, and the Joint Declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership between the countries was adopted. He noted that he is interested in enhancing the collaboration between the NHRIs of Azerbaijan and China.
At the meeting, a wide range of issues of mutual interest were discussed.
