By the instructions given by Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, the Ombudsman’s National Preventive Group conducted unannounced monitoring visits to boarding-type Gymnasiums of Technical, Humanities and Natural Sciences named after M. Sheykhzade in Aghdash district, as well as the boarding-type gymnasium of integrated training named after S. Vurgun in Goychay city during the child rights month-long campaign.
The purpose of the visits, organized in compliance with the requirements of the OPCAT and the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, was to monitor the conditions created for children of different ages, treatment issues by those facilities, and to follow up on the previsously given recommendations.
In the course of the visits, medical, recreational, workshop and playrooms, as well as a dining room and office rooms were monitored; the management of the facilities and pupils and teaching staff were held private talks.
Despite the elimination of several previous shortages, some problems have yet unaddressed.
At the end of the visits, the management and responsible staff members were given advice on how to maintain conditions, healthcare services and documentation in compliance with national and international legislation, as well as provided with some educational tools.
The Ministry of Science and Education will be urged regarding the outcomes of the monitorings.
