The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, took part in the events organized in honor of the 3rd December- International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Within this remarkable day, the Commissioner, firstly, visited the “Kashalata” inclusive cafe, where people with autsim syndrome are working, and got acquainted with the created conditions and working environment and held talks with individuals with disabilities, whose employment is ensured.
During the visit, the importance of measures taken to increase the rate of employment of the vulnerable population groups and ensure their societal integration was emphasized. In addition, it was said that the protection of people from this category is at the center of the Ombudsman’s activities.
Later, Sabina Aliyeva took part in the Book Reading event held in an inclusive format at the Baku Book Center, in joint organization of the “Support of the Sign Language Development” Public Union and the Republic Child Library named after F. Kocharli.
Highly appreciating the organization of such events, during her speech, the Ombudsman indicated the significance of providing necessary support to the process of decent integration of all children, including those with hearing and visual impairments and with special needs, and for the sake of inclusive life by the state authorities, civil society organizations, and society as whole.
Following the reading of short stories selected by children and accompanied by sign language interpretation, the Ombudsman had interactive and interesting discussions with the children.
In conclusion, the Ombudsman stressed the necessity of organizing regular and sustainable projects not only to honor specific dates but also to support social inclusion.
