At the initiative of Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, awareness-raising events are being held regularly across the country for the purpose of increasing the public knowledge in the field of protection and promotion of human rights.
Within recent days, according to the 2024 action plan approved by the Ombudsman, the next awareness event on safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and promotion of the right to equality and prevention of discrimination was held within the Office.
During the event organized for civil society members, Zaur Valimammadli, head of the Department for Cooperation with International and Civil Society Organizations, informed the participants about the public awareness events, which were launching in accordance with the Ombudsman’s relevant decree. It was said that the Ombudsman Institution, accredited as an NHRI, plays an important role in promoting positive human rights experiences both at the national and international levels. He emphasized that pursuant to the amendments made to the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman, monitoring groups monitoring and promoting the implementation of the CRPD and CRC, as well as ensuring the right to equality and the prevention of discrimination were created within the Office. He highlighted the necessity of joint efforts with the civil society organizations in order to achieve the effectiveness of activities in the relevant fields.
In the seminar, which was joined visually by the Ombudsman’s North, South, West, and Northwest Regional Centers and the representatives of the Ombudsman Office of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Shahla Aslanova and Sevinj Shener, the staff members of the Ombudsman Institution, made presentations as trainers on the Ombudsman’s activities in the field of monitoring and promoting the PWD rights and ensuring the right to equality and prevention of discrimination.
In the course of the seminar, interesting and interactive discussions were held with the participants.
