Legal awareness activities continue within the framework of the Ombudsman's National Preventive Mechanism activities

Fruitful cooperation initiated by the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva is being maintained with educational institutions that provide personnel training for law enforcement agencies, including the Justice Academy of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan.

Parvin Rahimov, an employee of the Department for Prevention of Torture at the Ombudsman Office gave a lecture on "The Ombudsman’s National Preventive Mechanism Activities" for employees of the Penitentiary Service at the Academy of Justice. 

The participants were informed about the designation of the Ombudsman as an institution performing the functions of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) by the relevant Presidential Order regarding the implementation of the OPCAT, the monitoring visits, and the recommendations given, and the status of their implementation.

Penitentiary Service employees were trained on the European Prison Rules, the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Nelson Mandela Rules), the UN Basic Principles for the Treatment of Prisoners, SPT recommendations, and standards included in the CPT's General Reports.

Questions about the work of the Ombudsman as the NPM were answered.
