
Within the Ombudsman’s Independent Monitoring Mechanism, the Monitoring Group (MG) on the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), along with holding an awareness-raising meeting in the Republican Humanities-Oriented Gymnasium named after A.S. Makarenko subordinated to the Preschool and General Education State Agency under the Ministry of Science and Education, conducted an investigation in the facility.
Based on the request to the Ombudsman, the MG conducted an investigation in the gymnasium. The Group Members held talks with the management of the facility, psychological and teaching staff, as well as private conversations with children.
In the course of the investigation, the MG had an awareness-raising discussion on the topic “Rights and Responsibilities of Children” with the participation of students and teaching staff. During the event, the children were comprehensively enlightened about activities to combat all forms of discrimination, inadmissibility of child abuse, and the fight against bullyng, the Ombudsman’s application forms, and on the work of the “916” Call Center, available 24 hours. The child participants were dispensed educational publications among the participants and the importance of continuous implementation of such meetings.
Subsequently, the Group Members proposed recommendations to the management of the facility regarding the findings of the investigation and on how to further strengthen the protection of children's rights within the facility. The recommendations also include the actions needed to be taken in the organization of student conduct and psychological services. Furthermore, the requirements of the legislation were explained.
The institution will follow up on the implementation of the recommendations.
