According to the action plan for the "Strengthening Capacity Building of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Preparation of Alternative Reports" run by the Union of Disabled Peoples Organizations, round-table on "The Importance and Ways of Involving Organizations of PWDs in the Activities Implemented by State Institutions". The representatives of state institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) took part in this round table.
During the event, Mugalib Mahmudov, the Head of the Unit at the Department for Cooperation with International and Civil Society Organizations (SCOs) in the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan, emphasized the significant role of mutual bilateral cooperation between state institutions and CSOs in the protection of the rights of PWDs. He provided participants with information about the work carried out by the Ombudsman in this regard over the past years.
In accordance with the recent amendments to the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman, it was highlighted that the Ombudsman was empowered to function as an independent monitoring mechanism for the implementation of CRPD and CRC as well as for monitoring and promotion of ensuring equality and preventing discrimination. It was said that necessary measures are currently being taken to fulfill these responsibilities.
