The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized an international roundtable on the implementation of the "Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration" in Tashkent.

The representatives of the relevant state institutions of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of national human rights institutions, educational institutions, civil society organizations, the IOM headquarters and regional offices, and representatives of the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre, participated in the roundtable.

Turan Jahangirova, Head of the Unit of Work with Martyrs' Families and Veterans in the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan, provided information to the participants about the activities of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman related to the protection of the rights of migrants and their family members, as well as the interests of vulnerable migrant categories such as children, women, and others. She also highlighted the activities related to improving migration legislation and the relevant legal protection mechanisms, along with the regulation of the status of migrants.

In her speech, T. Jahangirova noted that Azerbaijan, which faced unprecedented consequences of internal forced displacement, liberated its ancient lands that were under occupation for thirty years and restored its own territorial integrity. This led to a safe and dignified return home for more than a million refugees and internally displaced persons, whose fundamental human rights had been violated for many years.

She emphasized that the massive mine contamination of these territories not only hinders ongoing recovery and reconstruction works but also poses a serious threat to the lives and health of people. This situation also creates a significant obstacle to the return of forcibly displaced persons who have been fleeng from their homes for decades and the realization of their rights.

Furthermore, information was provided about the Ombudsman's legal awareness activities, monitoring visits to immigration detention centers for irregular migrants, investigation of individual complaints and appeals, expansion of regional and international cooperation, and other good practices achieved in various areas.

During the event, the development prospects of partnership and dialogue in the field of migration among the Central Asian states were discussed.
