The existence of mines and unexploded military ordinance planted by Armenia on Azerbaijani territories continues to pose a serious threat to the lives of civilians.
Thus, on July 13 of this year, in the area of Seyidler village, Kalbajar district, an Azerbaijani civilian engaged in private entrepreneurship was injured as a result of a landmine explosion.
Armenia's mine terrorism committed against our country leads to the loss or injury of our military servicemen and civilians. Furthermore, it hinders the return of former IDPs to their native lands and creates obstacles for activities of business entities' as well as for the implementation of reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the region.
The planting of mines in the Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and the refusal to provide accurate minefield maps are clear manifestation of Armenia's disrespect for the norms and principles of international law and international humanitarian law.
As the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I call on relevant international organizations to take decisive steps in urging Armenia to put an end to the mine terror and promptly provide accurate maps of our mined areas liberated from occupation.
