The Ombudsman received a newly appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Azerbaijan

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, received Mikhail Yevdokimov, a newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman gave extensive information to the Ambassador about activities in the field of the protection of human rights and freedoms. Outlining the amendments made to the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman, S. Aliyeva noted that her mandate was extended in the field of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and children, as well as ensuring equality and the prevention of discrimination. 

The Ombudsman also informed the guest about her activities in the field of international cooperation, noting  the existing close cooperation with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation. It was said that joint cooperation is continuing for effective protection of the rights of citizens of both states.    

Afterwards, the Ombudsman provided broad information about the building and reconstruction works being carried out in the territories liberated from the Armenian occupation and demining activities. It was said that the Ombudsman, as well as jointly with the international independent experts, conducted on-site investigations during the war and post-war period to investigate violations of norms and principles of international humanitarian law, and 18 reports have been prepared and submitted to international and regional organizations.  

Ambassador M. Yevdokimov, in his turn, thanked the Ombudsman for her warm reception.

At the end, prospects of cooperation for further strengthening the collaboration between the ombuds institutions of Azerbaijan and Russia were discussed.
