Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, held a meeting with Péter Sztáray, the State Secretary for Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of this country, while on a business trip to Hungary.
At the meeting, the Ombudsman discussed the high-level relations between the ombudsman institutions of two countries.
The Ombudsman also added that Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory for thirty years, and all the fundamental rights of more than one million Azerbaijanis, who became refugees and former internally displaced persons as a result of this military aggression, were violated. The Ombudsman further stated that Azerbaijan liberated its territories from occupation as a result of the Patriotic War, as a result of which the territorial integrity of our country was restored.
S. Aliyeva also outlined Armenia’s violations of international humanitarian law committed during the war and the investigative activities carried out by the Ombudsman Institution in order to inform the international community about these facts. She pointed out that fact-finding missions were carried out both during and after the war and that mission reports were prepared and sent to relevant international organizations.
Mr. Sztáray stated at the meeting that cooperation with the Turkic states is crucial for Hungary, and noted that relations with Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and other states are at a high level in this regard.
As part of the visit, the Ombudsman also visited the Veszprém Regional Investigation Facility. Here, the Ombudsman was informed about the activities of the facility.
