On March 7, 2023, the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, spoke before the Parliament with the 2022 Report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the protection of human rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan".
First, S. Aliyeva and the staff of the Office visited the grave of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, who had a special role in the establishment of the Ombudsman Institution, and paid tribute to his memory. The dear memory of outstanding ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva was also honored in the Alley of Honor. Afterwards, the Alley of Martyrs was visited, and the unforgettable memory of our martyrs, who had fallen for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, was commemorated with respect.
Later, in her interview with media outlets, S. Aliyeva gave some brief information about the issues to be touched upon during the presentation of her Annual Report in Parliament. The Ombudsman also emphasized that she will continue to convey the truth about the human rights violations that occurred as a result of Armenia’s long-term occupation and ethnic cleansing policies to the world community and international institutions, and that effective cooperation with the Western Azerbaijan Community will be one of the priorities in her activities this year.
During her speech in the Parliament, the Ombudsman brought to the attention the situation of the protection of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan in 2022, as well as her activities, existing problems, and tasks ahead. Furthermore, the Ombudsman made a number of proposals and recommendations in her 2022 report to more effectively provide and protect human rights and freedoms in our country.
