Ombudsman’s National Preventive Group conducted the Next Monitoring

Based on instructions given by Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, the members of the National Preventive Group (NPG) continue monitoring visits to places where individuals cannot leave at their own will. 

The purpose of visits are conducted in accordance with the OPCAT and the Constitutional Law on Ombudsman of Azerbaijan was to monitor conditions of detention and issues related to treatment.

During the monitoring visits, NPG members inspected the Detention Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Tofiq Yaqublu, who had been transferred from the Detention Center to the Binagadi Medical Center on the grounds of refusing food, was individually received there on January 16, 2023 as well. The members of the NPG inquired about his health, investigated the issues related to the protection of his rights. 

The NPG members- a psychologist and a medical doctor also took part in the confidential meetings.

During the meeting, it was observed that the health condition of the abovementioned person was under medical supervision.

It should be noted that the appeals received by the Ombudsman about the right of Tofiq Yaqublu to meet with lawyer and family members were promptly investigated and ensured.
