The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva participated in the VII Meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen held in Moscow as an observer guest.
In her speech, the Ombudsman thanked Ms. Tatyana Maskalkova, the Federal Ombudsman of the Russian Federation for inviting her to participate in the event, and for her sensitive approach to the protection of the rights of citizens of Azerbaijan, including the right to health, as well as for her support to them in providing access to various state services, and in quickly and promptly solving the problems they face.
The Ombudsman gave extensive information to the participants about the activities of the Ombudsman Institution in protecting and providing human rights and freedoms, as well as the works done as a national preventive mechanism. While outlining the activities related to the protection of child rights, she also noted that in 2021, the Child Rights Protection Unit was created in the premises of the Institution. S. Aliyeva also added that, on her initiative, within the framework of "Child Rights Month" covering the dates of October 20 - November 20, legal awareness events were held across the country.
S. Aliyeva also spoke about the activities of the Department for the Protection of the Right of Access to Information, as another new structural development made in the Office, and the measures implemented in the relevant field.
At the meeting, the Ombudsman pointed out that she closely cooperates with national human rights institutions, foreign ombudspersons, as well as other international and regional organizations working in the field of protection of human rights, as well as that joint projects are implemented towards the protection of human rights and freedoms.
She also provided information about the changes to be made to the legislation regarding expanding the Azerbaijan Ombudsman’s powers for further adequate protection of human rights.
In conclusion, Azerbaijan Ombudsman S. Aliyeva emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation among national human rights institutions, conducting positive experiences and exchanges of views in the field of human rights protection, as well as organizing joint events.
