During the "Child Rights Month" announced by the Ombudsman and covering the period from October 20 to November 20, the Ombudsman's National Preventive Group held planned visits to Sheki city Integrated training boarding school and Sheki Mixed Orphanage.
The purpose of the visit, organized on the basis of the OPCAT and the Constitutional Law "On the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan" was to examine the detention conditions and treatment of child residents by the employees of these child facilities, as well as to investigate the situation of ensuring child rights.
During the preventive visits, the psychological, medical, recreation, speech therapy, sleeping, labor and classrooms, kitchen, dining room, food storage, dormitories for boys and girls, sanitary facilities, bath, laundry, gym, and leisure rooms of the child institutions were inspected.
Furthermore, a meeting was held with the children, and they were informed about the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the provisions of the Law of Azerbaijan "On Child Rights", the Ombudsman’s activities in protecting children's rights, and their questions were answered.
In the end, the management and responsible employees of the child facilities were given recommendations on how to properly ensure living conditions, medical care, and processing of the documentation in conformity with national and international legislation.
