The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva had a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ms.Vladanka Andreyeva. Mr. Kamran Bagirov, head of the representation of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Azerbaijan, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties broadly discussed the issues related to the development of bilateral cooperation in protecting and promoting human rights.
The importance of the UN support to awareness-raising events for children and young people, including those held in the districts during the "Child Rights Month" announced by the Ombudsman was noted.
The importance of joint cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies in annually holding competitions and events organized by the Azerbaijani Ombudsman due to International Human Rights Day was noted.
During the meeting, bilateral cooperation between the UN Country Office and Ombudsman Office in the free legal assistance campaign conjointly implemented was positively evaluated and it was decided to continue it in the future. There was also an exchange of views on the organization of joint enlightening events addressed to different population groups in the educational, medical, penitentiary, social service, and rehabilitation centers.
Furthermore, the issue of holding joint educational events on the rights of refugees and IDPs in our territories freed from occupation.
At the meeting, it was also decided to develop an annual action plan, which envisages the further expansion of the existing cooperation relations of the Ombudsman with the UN, as well as the implementation of joint actions toward the protection of human rights and freedoms.
In the end, S. Aliyeva presented a postage stamp dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Ombudsman Institution, as well as newly printed educational publications to V. Andreyeva and K. Baghirov.
